I Finally Went for a Walk

It’s been far too long since my last proper walk. November, I think? Life has been so hectic—work, renovation, illness, kids—that taking time for myself always felt like a luxury I couldn’t afford. But yesterday, I decided to change that. I laced up my boots, put on my coat, and ventured out for a 5km walk.

I’m proud of myself, even though the pain is a bit much. It’s not just muscle soreness—it’s deeper and more persistent, the kind that makes you acutely aware of how long you’ve been inactive. Getting out there wasn’t easy, and yes, it was probably too much too soon. But it’s still a step forward—quite literally.

I hope this marks the beginning of carving out more time for myself, even if it’s just for shorter, gentler walks as I ease back into it. For now, I’ll stick to smaller steps, knowing that each one gets me closer to feeling stronger again.

    1. 14F? It’s -10C. It is cold! I do scarves. I breathe through the scarf when it’s cold 🙂 It seems that this year’s cold is in your place. It hasn’t been cold this year…. not for more than 4 days! And that is nothing.

    1. Refreshing, yes. But since I’m not in the best shape, it always ends with a shower and a fresh change of clothes! I get sweaty and tired by the end. I’ve tried dressing lighter, but it doesn’t seem to help.

  1. Looks similar to the road I lived on years ago before getting married and moving to the city. This old hillbilly misses those dirt roads.
And congrats on getting out and walking. I used to do it most every day, but don’t much anymore.

    1. Thank you! There’s something special about those dirt roads, isn’t there? They always seem to hold a sense of peace and nostalgia. It’s great to hear you have fond memories of them! Walking on them feels like a small escape from the rush of modern life. Maybe you’ll find time to get back into walking again—it’s such a simple joy.
