Where Has Winter Gone?

This winter feels unsettlingly warm. Snow comes and goes, melting away almost as quickly as it falls. Just a week ago, I captured this picture. Today, it’s all gone—again.

These changes aren’t just random; they’re part of a pattern driven by climate change. Warmer winters disrupt wildlife, agriculture, and the traditions we hold dear. Rising global temperatures, fueled by human activity, are reshaping the seasons we once knew.

As I look at the bare ground (for my kids – 12 to 9 – this was the first time that Christmas wasn’t white, and they were shocked!) I wonder: Will future generations know the magic of snowy winters?

All my life plans are around the white Christmas 🙂 – bonfire with grandchildren in the middle of snowy spruce tree circle, sleigh riding, snow ball fight, etc.

Let’s see what will happen in the February, the coldest month here!

    1. So true. It’s frustrating to see how often the warnings are ignored, even when the evidence is so clear. I just hope more people start paying attention and taking action before it’s too late….

    1. I completely agree—the evidence is overwhelming and hard to ignore. It’s so important that we acknowledge it and take action, even in small ways, to make a positive difference for the planet. How do you personally try to contribute?

    1. It can be so frustrating when loved ones don’t see eye to eye on these things. Sometimes leading by example and showing the positive impact of small changes can be more effective than words. It’s a journey, and even little steps in the right direction can make a difference! Keep at it—you might inspire him more than you realize. 😊

      1. Years ago he finally started recycling his bottles. I do lead by example but he doesn’t always get the “this” creates Global Warming. I don’t really preach to him, I think it’s that. he doesn’t understand Global Warming. I am certainly no expert but I understand that we can make a difference.

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad it stood out to you—it really means a lot! Also, this comment was in the SPAM; I don’t know what is happening, I hope it won’t happen again!

        1. Ah, yes, WordPress updates can be sneaky like that! 😊 It’s frustrating when long-time commenters get flagged for approval out of the blue. Hopefully, it’s just a minor glitch that smooths itself out soon! WP is great, but those little bugs always seem to pop up when you least expect them. 😄

    1. That sounds like a lovely little touch of winter! Snow in the southern US must feel extra special. It’s always a bit sad when it melts so quickly, but I’m sure it was a magical sight while it lasted!

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words! 😊 Winter seems to have taken a detour this year for sure! It’s fascinating how weather patterns can vary so much—here in Latvia, it’s been cold and dark as usual, but I wonder what the rest of winter has in store for all of us. Stay warm in Southern Ohio!

    1. You’re absolutely right—winter always has a way of reminding us it’s not done yet! These shifts in the season keep things interesting, don’t they? Let’s see what other surprises winter has in store! And I looked outside – the snow is back 😀
