Rucola, Arugula, Rocket, Roquette

It all started when I opened my garden planning app and tried to register the plant I had just seeded—rukola (the Latvian name). But guess what? I couldn’t find it!

Can you guess the right name (or at least the one you use)?

Turns out, in a million years, I wouldn’t have thought to look under the name rocket!

Who knew this same leafy green had so many names? Arugula, rocket, roquette, rucola… It’s the same plant, but with a whole bunch of identities depending on where you’re from.

Anyway, lesson learned—rukola is rocket, and now I can finally find it in my app!

Here are the progress photo:

      1. I moved to Switzerland over 50 years ago, and am now Swiss (on paper, anyway). I wrote about becoming Swiss on this blog in 2019-2021 if you want to look back at my posts from that time.

        1. That’s a fascinating journey! It must have been quite an experience adjusting to life in Switzerland. I’ll have to check out your posts from that time to read more about it. Was there anything in particular that stood out to you during your process of becoming Swiss? Also, where were you born?

    1. That’s so interesting! It’s funny how we get used to different names depending on where we live. Do you still find yourself switching between them?
