The Moon I Almost Missed

I almost missed it. Honestly, I can’t believe I did. I felt it…

With all this gray sky, endless drizzle, and heavy summer clouds, I hadn’t even thought to look up. July has felt like one long sigh — cold, damp, and dreary. I’ve been indoors too much, moving from one to-do to another, hoping for even a sliver of sunlight or something to remind me it’s still summer. Today it was sunny… ended in thunderstorms!

But tonight I went out to water the greenhouse… Just a quick check. Nothing magical is expected. And there it was.

The Full Buck Moon, glowing silently above the trees. Soft, golden, perfectly framed by a break in the clouds like it had been waiting for me to notice it. They call it the Buck Moon because it’s the time of year when deer begin to regrow their antlers. Growth. Regeneration. Strength is slowly returning. Fitting, isn’t it?

Maybe I didn’t miss it after all.
Maybe I saw it at just the right time.

It’s 2 AM now, and I should be in bed. But I didn’t want this moment to slip away unshared. There’s something comforting in knowing the moon is always there — even behind the clouds. Even when we forget to look.

Good night, moon.
Good night, you.

    1. Thank you! Yes, the rain can really start to weigh on you after a while, can’t it? We had a rare moment of sunshine in between storms, and I ran outside just to soak it in for a bit. Do you find that rainy days make you slow down a little—or do they just throw off your plans? I’ve started to appreciate the cozy feeling they bring, though I still long for a bit more light!

  1. Great photo. I have been kept awake these last few nights by this magnificently bright Moon (yrs, it deserves a capital letter) shining in on me. But I wouldn‘t like to have missed it.

    1. Thank you! Oh, I completely understand—this Moon really has been something special (and yes, it absolutely deserves the capital M!). It felt almost otherworldly, didn’t it? I caught a glimpse of it through the clouds the other night while watering the greenhouse—just magical. Sleep may have suffered a bit, but moments like that are worth it. Do you ever find it makes you feel more reflective or even a little restless?
