Adrenaline Weekend: Amateur Rally

This past weekend was full of energy, dust, and engine noise – Jānis participated in an amateur rally as a co-driver, and we were all cheering him on from the sidelines!

Can’t believe they got on the poster! Source:https://minirallijs.lv/kalendars/

He wasn’t behind the wheel, but in the passenger seat with the route map in hand – calm, focused, and calling out directions as they sped through gravel roads and tight corners. It’s such a demanding role, and honestly, one that doesn’t get enough credit. Without a sharp co-driver, the driver can’t do much!

No trophies came home this time, but that wasn’t the point. The experience, the teamwork, the challenge – that’s what matters. We’re just proud of Jānis for jumping in, doing something outside the usual daily rhythm, and enjoying every minute of it.

And the biggest fan is in the pictures 🙂

We’re already looking forward to the next rally weekend!

    1. Thank you, John! Your support means so much. If you were choosing—would you jump in as a co‑driver like Jānis or stay on the sidelines cheering? What resonates more: being part of the action or watching from the sidelines?

          1. I used to drive everywhere with a really good buzz, it was so dangerous and ridiculous, Ilze. This was the 1980s, I’m so glad that I never hurt anyone or my buddies! Young and stupid I was…

    1. It really was heart-pounding—in a good way! Seeing those speeds, hearing the gravel fly—have you ever been to a rally or motorsport event? What stood out most?

      1. Years ago I went to a NASCAR race at Watkins Glen International. Sadly, it was a boiling hot day and I got dust in my eyes and it really wasn’t very enjoyable, lol. But I had been to the drag strip many times (in the cool of evening) and found those races to be thrilling 🙂

  1. Have done the same ‘job’ more than once way back when . . . actually, a hugely demanding task which demands both concentration and spur-of-the-moment decision making. Good’on’ya-as we would say in Australia!

    1. Exactly—spot on, Eha! Co-driving is far from easy. Concentration, precision, split-second decisions… what was your experience like when you co‑drove? Any memorable moments or surprising challenges?

    1. So true! That partnership—the driver and navigator working as one—is everything. Anonymous, have you seen teamwork like that in action? Either in motorsport or in another context where trust and split-second coordination mattered?
