I’m finally sharing the clean sofa pictures! ✨ Much better!

Yesterday was such a lovely day. Thanks to Jānis, I now have my needles, and thanks to Baiba—with her professional oil (she makes beautiful bags and purses)—both my sewing machine and serger are now ready for upcoming projects. I even ordered fabric for our night curtains, and I can’t wait to see how they turn out and how they’ll fit into our living room.

I’m also planning a fresh look for the sofa cushions. The current ones are fine and do work with my design, but they’re not exactly shouting Ilze 😄 So, a little makeover is in order. I have a feeling that vintage rose tapestry fabric will look gorgeous… and then we’ll see what becomes of the rest. 🙂

And—what really made yesterday special—I attended fermentation courses, and it was absolutely marvelous. I already knew quite a bit about how important fermented foods are, but now I have the knowledge to make them even better. I’ve made sauerkraut before, tried kombucha, and I’ve also salted cucumbers and mushrooms… but now I can take all of that to the next level.

Big projects ahead—both in the sewing room and in the kitchen!
The sunset was lovely!

And I run outside at 23:54 to get my 10K and I did!!!!

P.S. Looks like tomorrow’s blog post might be short and to the point… It’s already 14:25, and I still haven’t decided what I want to do—just happily embracing a lazy day!

Your new furniture looks wonderful! it makes such a difference. I do
like to change cushion covers – sometimes I make them, sometimes I buy
them. A small thing, but a big change.
And the fermentation class! wowsers!
Well done you – making the most of your holiday time.

Thank you, Mandy! 💛 I agree—changing cushion covers is such a small thing but feels like a whole new room. I’m curious, do you prefer bright colors or more neutral tones when you make them? And yes, the fermentation class was such fun—I’m already planning my next batch!

Hello Ilze, the furniture is looking good, I’m sure you will make it look even better. Marley seems to have found his favorite places already. Yes, fermented food is very good for health. It’s my cousins birthday today and she sent me a picture of the beach and sea at Apsuciems, the weather looks good.

Thank you! 😊 Marley definitely has a knack for finding the best spots—especially if they’re sunny! Apsuciems might have the sun – perfect for a birthday walk by the sea. When will you visit them?

I think it will have to be next year now, it’s so difficult finding a cattery or cat sitter since the lockdown. Maybe they will come and visit me, they enjoyed it last time they were here.

I bet! Our friend is living in London… we wanted to go, but… haven’t got to that yet 🙂

The city I live in is a bit like comparing Liepāja to Cēsis it’s much smaller than London. I haven’t been to London for years (it’s only 1 hour away by train) I liked the old London of the late 1960’s and 1970’s. It’s a great place to visit if you are from abroad though.

I love Cēsis! Can’t remember the last time I visited Liepāja! It’s far from Gulbene 🙂

I love the tapestry fabric. The set is going to be breathtaking when you’ve finished 🙂

Thank you! I’m so excited about the tapestry fabric—it feels like it will really bring warmth to the room. Do you work with tapestry fabrics too, or do you prefer something lighter?

Where do you get the inspiration!? I once tried to write a book – cause I have vivid dreams, and I wrote one page – and that was the whole story! How can you make it in a book 🙂

Not being on any time frame, nowhere to go, enjoy the quietness, and includes a couple of naps. 🙂

Thank you, Mary! I’m loving the fabric too—it’s going to be hard to wait until it’s all done. And the fermentation class has me completely inspired! Have you ever tried making fermented foods yourself?

I’ve always made pickled cucumbers and peppers.

pickled involves some form of vinegar…These are “salted”.

Oh, I wish I had been a birdie on your shoulder during the fermentation class – have eaten pickled ‘everything’ all my life of course – pickled cucumbers and sauerkraut and mushrooms et al and even gotten friendly with kombucha but have mostly bought ready-made or learned from books, so this would have helped both my tastebuds and health 🙂 !!!

Eha, it really was such a fun and tasty experience! 🥒🥬🍄 I’ve made a few things before, but it’s so different when you can actually watch, smell, and taste everything as it’s being prepared. I think you would have loved it — and maybe picked up a few new ideas for your pickling adventures! 🙂
