I Threw My Back Out…

For the first time in my life, I felt something I had only heard other people talk about. My back gave out on me. One wrong move and suddenly I realized how much we rely on our spine for everything — standing, walking, sitting, moving, even breathing feels different now… I can’t la/tilugh.

Tomorrow I have a doctor’s appointment. There will be an X-ray, and then we’ll see. Part of me is nervous, part of me is just tired, and another part is strangely curious about what this will mean for me going forward.

It happened yesterday, so today I feel a bit better, but still, for now, I’m taking it hour by hour, waiting for answers. Tomorrow might be the start of something new — maybe even a new life with a bit more care for my body. And by care, I mean exercise…

  1. Wow, welcome to the club, ilze. I have three herniated lumbar down low in my back which causes sciatica too. I can’t walk more than 200 or 300 feet with having to stop walking. I pray that your back is not nearly as bad as mine is! Be careful with that, take it very easy. 🙏🏻

  2. Uggghh, so sorry, Ilze. I have chronic back issues and have to have a chair at my register at work. I can’t stand or sit for more than an hour at a time. I feel your pain. Prayers you are feeling better soon.

  3. Sorry about that, Ilze! Yes, I have chronic back pain and had several injections to treat the nerves. I hope yours is not bad. You may just need physical therapy and exercise. You’re right, we have to take care of our bodies.

  4. Oh my, I hope your back feels better soon, nothing more painful having your back out! There are exercises that you can do that help to strengthen the muscles around your back, I’m sure your doctor will tell you which ones to do. Use a wrap around cold gel pack if you can, and if you can’t handle the cold use a heating pad for about 20 min or so at a time off and on during the day. When I go to bed at night when my back is out, I put a gel pack on my back and when I wake up in the morning it’s toasty warm lol, so it’s like I’ve used both. Mine takes a week or two to feel back to normal, but you should feel better a little each day. Let us know what your Dr said!
