She’s 14! Already?

Yesterday, Nelle turned 14.

Fourteen feels strange to say out loud. Somewhere between a child and a young woman. Old enough to roll her eyes at me sometimes, but still young enough to laugh at silly things and disappear into her own little world.

Time really does move in the strangest way. The days often feel long and chaotic. But then suddenly — your child is fourteen.

There is no way I can have a picture of her now! Enjoy the year 2017 🙂

I’m proud of who she is becoming. Kind, funny, creative, stubborn in her own way, thoughtful, and growing stronger every year.

Happy 14th birthday, I hope life stays soft with you, even when the world is not. I hope you always keep your curiosity, your laughter, and the things that make you uniquely you.

Ilze

  1. Hello Nelle! Happy, happy, happy late birthday to you all the long, long way from the land of kangaroos and koalas. Hope it will be a good year – hope some of the things you quietly and privately think about and hope for will come true . . . have a great summer and a good holiday when it turns up! Oh, give your Mom a hug for me too 🙂 !

    1. This is such a sweet message, thank you so much 😊 Fourteen suddenly feels very grown up to me, even though in my mind she was just tiny yesterday. 😄 I think she would happily accept your wishes for summer holidays too. Do your grandchildren (I don’t know if you have any) grow up too quickly for you as well?

    1. Thank you 😊 Oh wow — that means our daughters are almost the same age! It really is such an interesting age somehow, caught between childhood and adulthood. Does your daughter also suddenly seem much older lately?
Also, maybe you have two more kids? 🙂 I do 🙂

      1. It is fun that they are almsot exactly the same age. Yes, suddenly she is sometimes acting and talking like an adult. I only have one more kid, an older son.

    1. Thank you very much 😊 Watching children grow up is both wonderful and a little heartbreaking at the same time somehow. Do you enjoy looking back at old family photos too?

  2. Happy Birthday, Nelle!! I love her photos, so adorable, Ilze. Oh to be so young again… God bless your family! 🙏🏻❤️

    1. Thank you so much 😊 Looking through old photos yesterday made me realize again how quickly everything changes. And yes… sometimes I would happily borrow the energy of my younger self for a day. 😄 Did seeing childhood photos ever make you nostalgic too?
Remind me – how old are your kids?

  3. What a beautiful post I remember when my kids were young someone told me don’t blink or you’ll miss their wedding. It’s so true. I don’t know where those years went. Life is so fleeting. My daughter is almost 21 and my son is coming up to 17.

    1. I didn’t understand that saying at all! I was tired and constantly in stress. Now.. OMG – I want those cute babies back… that is why we will have grandkids (I hope! Not pushing, their choices) 🙂

      1. I would love a grandchild but I don’t think I’ll ever have because my son is severely disabled and my daughter is A sexual unless she adopts it just won’t happen, but yes at the time when they are young it’s tiring and certain stages you just want to be over but then as they grow you just wish you could have enjoyed those stages a bit more and have them all young and cuddly again 😊

        1. Life doesn’t always follow the path we imagine, and grandchildren may arrive in different ways—or not at all—but the love and memories we build with our children are still incredibly meaningful. Your son and daughter are fortunate to have a mother who clearly cherishes them so deeply. ❤️
