I’m still not quite ready to leave our Līgo memories behind. ❤️ There were so many little moments that made the celebration special.
Nelle had her own little photoshoot around the abandoned houses, where she looked right at home exploring every corner. She made two new furry friends, had plenty of fun, and even decided to claim an old John Deere tractor as her own. I don’t think she was planning to give it back!

Meanwhile, the men had their own project. 😄 Jānis and Ivars decided to build a grill using whatever they could find around. An old wok, a metal part from a car tire, and a few bricks later… they had created a perfectly working barbecue!

Sometimes the simplest ideas turn out to be the best ones.
And the reward? Delicious homemade Shashlik, cooked over the fire and enjoyed together by the Baltic Sea. It tasted even better knowing it had been made on such a creative, one-of-a-kind grill.
These are the moments I’ll remember most—not fancy decorations or perfect plans, but laughter, creativity, good food, new friends, and spending time together on a warm Latvian midsummer evening.

Very creative, men! That’s an old JD Combine, an amazing machine. I’m glad y’all had a fine time!
Yes! It really surprised me how creative they got with it 😄 That old combine was definitely one of Nelle’s highlights. It’s always nice when simple things turn into the best memories. Have you ever drive one?
The best!
It really was 🙂 Sometimes the simplest moments end up being the most special. Do you have your own favorite kind of “simple celebration” where you are?
. . . and a good time was had by all . . . and the stuff from the makeshift barbecue tasted better than from the home kitchen 🙂 !
Exactly that feeling 🙂 Everything tasted better somehow, even though it was just cooked over a very improvised grill. Maybe it’s the fresh air and company that does it! Did you enjoy cooking outdoors?
Ha! Silly question – especially when talking to someone from Australia where we can do it in my area almost all the year 🙂 !
What a marvellous barbecue project
It really was a fun little project to watch unfold 😄 Nothing planned, just improvised with what we had. Do you like this kind of spontaneous creativity, or do you prefer things a bit more planned?
Izklausas labi un jautra ligosana. Vai alus ari putoja?
Jā, bija ļoti jautri 😊 Un jā – alus arī putoja (man bezalkoholiskais)! Tā jau īsta līgo nakts. Vai tu esi domājusi svinēt “pa savam” līgo ASV?
