Nature Took Care of the Watering

There it is — the rain we desperately needed!

It poured heavily for about 10 minutes, then continued at a gentler pace for another 30. It wasn’t a long storm, but it was enough to give everything in the garden a lovely, much-needed drink.

The timing couldn’t have been better for the girls. They were already splashing around in the pool when the rain started! Since there was no thunder or lightning, I let them stay in. They had friends over, so the garden was filled with laughter, excited squeals, and plenty of noise. I don’t think they minded getting even wetter!

With some hot weeks ahead, I’m hoping this rain will help my plants thrive. I haven’t watered the garden much this year. Instead, I’ve been trusting Mother Nature and hoping the plants send their roots deeper into our heavy clay soil in search of moisture. It might not be the fastest way to grow a garden, but I like to think it makes the plants stronger and more resilient in the long run.

Now I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that this rain will carry them through the heat that’s on its way.

  1. Looking at the clouds, I am surprised this was not a thunderstorm. Fun for the girls getting even wetter and good for the plants . . . and, I fully agree about not ‘spoiling’ the garden too much and letting the plants somewhat look after themselves 🙂 !

    1. It wasn’t thunderstorm cause it’s July 🙂 Thunderstorms are more in spring and then in August 🙂

I would love to have garden without work 🙂 The one that look after themselves 🙂 I’m looking into Permaculture, but not sure I’m ready for it 🙂

  2. Wonderful! I am hoping for some rain here tomorrow. This morning I to0ok my bike up to the garden at 4am to water before the heat of the day…

    1. 4AM!? Oh my! way too early for me! I watered greenhouse around 9pm… opened the tap and remembered only at midnight that it’s still open 🙂

  3. Wonderful, beautiful rain. I am glad to hear that you got some. We had nice rain too and heat will be back starting this weekend.

    1. It’s nice that heat was a bit scared by rain 🙂 The cooler week is coming for us. I love cooler week 🙂 It might rain at night or in the morning, but then it should stop for me to enjoy the evening in the garden 🙂
