I took my raincoat and went for a walk.
On the ground, I found acorns everywhere, and I thought — there must be something happening in the forest.
So, naturally, I went to look.
It didn’t take much convincing. A rainy autumn day, a raincoat, and a forest full of possibilities. Sometimes that’s all you need to get out the door.
And maybe there are mushrooms waiting for me too. 🙂
It wasn’t a huge haul this time — just a few russulas and a nice amount of chanterelles, which are my absolute favourites.
I don’t really need much when I find chanterelles. I love cooking them with a little cream and eating them right away while they’re still fresh from the forest.
And russulas, you know — I fry them in egg wash. Simple and so good.
If there are enough chanterelles, they also make the most wonderful sauce for pasta or potatoes.
Love this countryside living.

Oh, I wish I could send you some! Chanterelles are one of the little luxuries of living out in the countryside here. 😊 And yes, the rain has been so gentle lately — just enough to keep the mushrooms happy without making everything feel gloomy…. But I know it’s coming 🙂

Thank you 🙂 I really enjoy living in the countryside. There’s plenty of space and peace for those who like it, but unfortunately, there aren’t many jobs, so most people end up living in the capital or other larger cities around Latvia.
We are lucky, for sure! Both working from home and enjoying the Mother Nature 🙂

🙂 Thank you, Derrick! I remember seeing plenty of chanterelles in your shared pictures once. But with mushrooms, you really have to be 100% sure what you’re picking before eating them! 🙂
