The excitement is building up—only two days left until Nelle’s birthday party! We are busy preparing and can hardly wait to celebrate together. Also, the weather is terrible! SO, party will be inside!
Yesterday, we had a lovely potato planting “party” in the garden. In Latvian, we call such a gathering a talka — it’s a community work event where friends and family come together to help with a shared task. It’s a wonderful way to get things done while enjoying each other’s company.

Our talka was full of laughter, teamwork, and the satisfying feeling of planting fresh potatoes for the season ahead. It’s amazing how much joy can come from working outside together. And I’m amazed we do that so late in May! Weather is changing… for sure!
Now we’re back home, looking forward to the fun and cake (I might opt out of baking one) that Nelle’s birthday will bring!

It sounds like the weather has not been good near you. Ours is definitely bi-polar/up and down.
It’s terrible here! Never seen so much rain in May! And such a low average temperature!!!
That sounds awesome! I need a housecleaning talka, lol 🙂
Oh, I need it as well 🙂 For the unfinished parts of the house, cause it’s a terrible mess!
The Talka sounds fun!! Happy Birthday, Nelle!!
The Talka is a good word – it means work, chat, lovely time and drinks at the end 🙂 I can’t find an appropriate one in English 🙂
Party? ☺️
It’s more like a party with a portion of hard work before it 🙂
Oh, that is very productive and fun!
It is productive! 🙂 and also fun!
Your talka is like our house painting parties. Perhaps you could have one of those
