Vacation Day 15 – Afternoon Tea and a New Bench

We said goodbye to our guests on Sunday, but the day still had a few surprises in store. For the past two years, Jānis’s mom has had this fantastic garden bench — actually, two chairs joined together with a little table in the middle. It’s absolutely perfect for my height, weight, and heart :). While we were celebrating our wedding anniversary there on Saturday, I couldn’t help but say out loud how much I admired it. Her reply was short and straight to the point: “Take it. I don’t have time to sit in it!”

And so the very next day, the bench appeared in our yard — delivered by grandpa with his tractor.

Of course, we had to try it out immediately. We enjoyed an afternoon tea in the garden on our “new” (well, new to us) bench. But as with any proper English tea, the rain decided to join in. Suddenly we were running inside with all the jams and little cheese sandwiches. 🙂 We finished our “English tea” indoors, laughing about it.

Another very important thing that happened today: I finally arranged mulch from a neighbor. At last, it was time to bring it home — and once again, grandpa with the tractor came to the rescue. There’s no way we could have managed it with just a wheelbarrow!

Another surpirse in the greenhouse, with all the celebrations – I forgot to collect the cucumbers 🙂

Oh, Helmī will be happy to eat all of them!

  1. Hmph – I would love and come and ‘pinch’ all of it. Love these benches with inbuilt tables – make sense and look good > yours needs a bit of oil to ‘feed’ the wood perchance 🙂 ? And no wonder your cucumbers look better than any I have seen awhile – that mulch is worth its weight in gold!

    1. Thank you! This grandpa is cool. We didn’t tell anything – bring the bench closer to the home, and planned to bring it home with the van… but he was the first with the tractor 🙂 as usually

  2. That’s a very cool bench!! I can see lots of knitting in it :).

That’s a lot of mulch! I got a truck load of chicken manure one year, in the spring and mulched it into my garden and then planted, nothing came up, I then learned it’s a hot fertilizer and you have to let it set all out winter before applying to your garden because it brunt all my plants up, sigh! But oh my I got so much stuff the next year!! It’s a great fertilizer!
