Finally, the tractor arrived to collect the hay we had mowed. Here, there’s a law that hay must be properly cleared from the meadows — you can’t just mow and leave it on the ground. So it was such a joy to see the hay being gathered, dried, and then rolled into neat bales!

The zucchini plants have finally started producing, and we can enjoy all kinds of zucchini dishes. I have 4 in the kitchen, and this one might be ready after two days.

As it’s getting cooler and more autumn-like, we’ve stopped cleaning the pool. In just one week, it’s already completely green, so we won’t be using it anymore this year. Now the question is: should we drain it or leave the water in to freeze over the winter?

I also measured a spot in the room where I still haven’t decided what I want to put. Meanwhile, I found a very beautiful sideboard at an antique shop and am thinking of buying it. For now, it’s on my list with the seller, because I really don’t want to drive all the way to Riga for it. What do you think?

A little flock of birds gathered in our yard today! I tried to photograph them with my camera, but… forget it. They move so fast and are so small that I just couldn’t get them in focus.

Also, I enjoy having the mulch close to the garden. Been thinking about continuing the raised bed project and building more beds… But then someone told me the best time to do that is in spring, before the grass starts to grow… But I might add it on top of empty beds throughout the winter… to start to compost… not sure.

Anyway… Love having time to daydream.

I would get the sideboard, lol, it’s gorgeous. And are the little birds tree swallows? I love to watch them in flight. Little acrobats 🙂

Haha, I know, the sideboard is so tempting! I might just go for it. And yes, I think the little birds might be tree swallows — they fly so fast and swoop around like tiny acrobats, just as you said. Hard to catch them with the camera!

Ilze – As I am one for modern Italian + Asian furniture I am not very good with the antique side of things. But the sideboard seems to have very pleasant proportions and actually usefully shaped storage space and would fit in very well with your new sofa and chairs. I am glad to hear of the post-mowing ‘tidiness’ requirements as long as there are no costs attached – I mean they are getting animal feed!

I agree, the sideboard actually feels practical, not just pretty. It would give me useful storage and I think it would blend nicely with what we already have. BUT I started to think… maybe this corner is destined for something else… not sure what…And yes, the hay rule makes sense — at least nothing goes to waste, and the farmers get feed out of it too.

The sideboard is great. Get it if you have enough space for it.

I have plenty of space! The problem is, I don’t want to rush—local antique stores are full of little treasures. 🙂
