I started the day at 6:45… just woke up, without an alarm! Not sure why, but I decided to take the day as it comes. First thing, I went for a walk and collected maple samaras – their shapes are so perfect and delicate.

Feeling inspired, I tried my hand at watercolor and painted the samaras. It was a simple experiment, but I love how it turned out. What do you think?

If you know me, you know that this is my favorite time for forest walks and foraging. This year, mushrooms are truly abundant. It only happens every 3–5 years that the forest is so full of them! Chanterelles are almost out of season now, but Russula is everywhere. I collected so many… A LOT!

Back home, I turned some of the Russula into Sēņu karbonādes – Russula in egg wash and flour. So simple, yet so delicious. A lot of karbonādes. I think this will be for few days to eat.

It’s little moments like this – walks, forest finds, and cooking with what you gather – that make these vacation days so special.

During the time I lived in Latvia, one of the best things was going mushroom picking.
I bet it was! Our car broke down, but I hope to get to the forest again soon 🙂
You’ve been very busy! The things that look like wings look like the little “helicopters” we played with as kids. Toss them in the air, they spin on the way down. 😊
We did the same 🙂 Loved it! My kids don’t even know it.
Show them. 👍🏻☺️
I will!
😊
You are so lucky too have these mushrooms almost on your doorstep.
That is why I live on countryside 🙂
Tho I love mushrooms, I would be afraid I’d pick non eatable ones 😛
You need someone to be with – that can show 🙂 and then only then you can do it on your own 🙂
I’ve foraged for mushrooms with an expert. Wild mushrooms are delicious, unless they are poisonous.
Well… forage only one type 🙂 That is easy and then add another 🙂
