Vacation Day 29 – Leaves, Sewing, and Small Joys

In the morning, I went for a walk and brought home a beautiful maple leaf. I even tried drawing it later. It didn’t turn out exactly as I imagined, but considering I’ve had no prior training in art, I think it came out pretty well. It feels so refreshing to slow down, notice these little details, and actually try to capture them on paper.

Back at home, I continued working on the sofa pillows. These past weeks of sewing have made me much more confident – I can sew a straight seam without second-guessing myself now, which feels like real progress. I even treated myself to new pins and scissors. They’ll serve me well for the next 10 years, I’m sure.

I’m getting so close to finishing this sewing project, and I can already imagine how cozy the space will look once everything is in place. Between the refreshing walks, autumn leaves, and the hum of the sewing machine, the day felt simple but very good.

  1. The leaf is beautiful, Ilze! I love autumn’s leaves as much as summer’s flowers 🙂 I will be excited to see pics of how the room comes together when you have all of your sewing done 🙂

  2. Love the maple leaf.
Letting you know we will be travelling remotely for most of the next three-four weeks. Back towards the end of September. Enjoy your last days of vacation.

  3. Absolutely love autumn leaves and you have one on paper just perfectly! And such a clear sky to enjoy . . , do you know what max the temperature was . . . 🙂 ?

    1. Thank you, Derrick! It’s an interesting feeling… I thought I couldn’t do it, and then I tried. I’ve wanted to try it for decades. I couldn’t help but wonder—what else have I been telling myself I can’t do?
