A Rainy Day in Salacgrīva and a Field of Lupins

Sometimes the weather has a way of testing our patience.

This weekend we were in Salacgrīva, my hometown, for a birthday celebration of a lovely boy!

Unfortunately, the weather decided not to cooperate. It was cold, rainy, and windy, and since the celebration was outdoors, we spent most of the day trying to stay warm. By the time it was over, my feet were completely soaked, cold and tired, and that cold, damp feeling had settled deep into my bones.

But then, on the drive home, we came across something beautiful.

Along the roadside was a huge field of lupins in full bloom. Purple, blu and pink with white Goutweed flowers stretched across the landscape, brightening an otherwise grey day. We couldn’t resist stopping for a closer look and a few photographs.

I can only imagine how stunning that field would look on a sunny evening or during a golden sunset. Even under cloudy skies, it was breathtaking.

Judging by the little “tunnels” winding through the flowers, we were not the first people to stop there. Clearly, many others had been tempted to walk into the field for photographs. The paths through the lupins were a giveaway!

It was a lovely reminder that even when a day doesn’t go quite as planned, something unexpected can still make it special.

Have you ever had a miserable day rescued by an unexpected beautiful sight?

  1. This will be the ‘silliest’ comment you will ever have heard but – if someone had shown me this young lad’s photo totally ad hoc and asked what nationality he was – I would have said Latvian – quite without the pic arriving on your post !? Yes, the lupins are lovely and you dressed just right to fit in 🙂 !

  2. Oh, my!! What a beautiful field of lupins. Great photos. Thank you for sharing. Hope your feet warmed up quickly and rested them.

  3. Such a beautiful find, Ilze! I would stop for photos too! I love the way the flowers grow vertically. ❤️ The Like button didn’t render for me.
