Sleep apnoea is a term I’m hearing for the first time, because my doctor is starting to think that this might be the reason why I’m not sleeping properly.
So now I need to find out if I actually have sleep apnoea. I’ll be taking a little machine home with me (beginning of Spetember) and sleeping with it for a night. It will record what happens while I sleep, and then the doctor will analyse the results and let me know what’s going on — whether there is sleep apnoea or not.
I have to admit, it’s a little strange to suddenly have another possible explanation for my terrible sleep. I guess we’ll see what the machine says!
Have you ever had a sleep apnoea test? What was your experience like? And does anyone know if it’s okay to do the test while taking antidepressants / sleeping pils?

I can’t speak from my own experience but a friend of mine has Sleep Apnoea. He sleeps with a mask. It’s a drag but he does sleep alright after years of being tired every morning. So he finds its worth it. I wish you strength with the test Ilze!
Sleep apnea is much talked about in Australia, but I do not know anyone who has actually been tested for it. Unfortunately I am a terrible sleeper – in the younger decades of my life we travelled around the world almost non-stop on business and, needing sleep, did resort to a lifelong usage of mild sleeping pills – two nights out of every three of mine could be better, but I am used to the vagaries by now. One thing which does help is a magnesium pill about an hour before sleep. i began using them to avoid severe leg cramps . . . but they have definitely given me better sleep . . .that is magnesium glycinate . . . there are seven different formulations.
I hear the term sleep apnea all the time here and know some people who wear the masks at night. I don’t sleep very deeply, but I’ve never been tempted to be tested.
