Back on Track: My First 5km Walk After Illness

After three weeks of illness, I finally took my first 5km (3.1 miles) walk today. It wasn’t easy—my legs, especially the upper back, felt tight and sore with every step. But I pushed through, soaking in the autumn air and the crunch of leaves underfoot.

It felt tough, but also rewarding. I may not be back to full strength yet, but I’m proud of this small victory. One step at a time, I’m getting there.

Have you ever come back to something after a break? Share your stories—I’d love to hear them!

    1. Thank you so much! 😊 I really appreciate the encouragement. I’m sorry to hear about your back—those long walks can be tough on it. I’ll be sure to keep going at my pace, and I hope you find ways to stay active in ways that work for you. Take care and thanks again for your support! 👍🏻😎

      1. You are welcome, my distant friend! I have three herniated lower lumbar that can slip out at any moment which causes me great pain. I just got my new handicap placards from the DMV, I only use them when my back is out.

Walking too far makes my bum cheeks hurt really bad, I have to stop for a minute or so. Walking through an airport is a painful experience! 😡

        1. It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot of pain, and I can’t imagine how tough that must be! I’m glad you’ve got the handicap placards to help when you need them—it’s important to have ways to make things a bit easier on tough days. Airports can be such a challenge even without pain, so I hope you can take it slow and find ways to make those situations less stressful. Sending you strength and wishing you better days ahead! 💛

              1. Time seems to pass faster the older I get, Ilze, it’s not passing faster but it sure feels like it! I am much happier these days as a single guy, marriage left me feeling trapped.

    1. I completely understand. Even though pain can make it harder, the peace and beauty of nature always make it worth it in the end. I hope the rewards continue to help you push through. Keep going—nature has a way of healing.
