Making the decision to reduce my work hours to 128 hours a month wasn’t easy, but it felt necessary. I love my job and the people I work with. The owner’s values align with mine, and the supportive work environment makes it hard to imagine stepping away. Also, I work from home, so it’s easy to “go to work” and “come home from work”.

However, everything else around me feels like a mess! The house renovation is still ongoing, and since we’re working on an old house, it was never fully completed to begin with. Some parts are finished, while others remain a mix of old and unfinished, creating chaos everywhere. On top of that, I’m dealing with health issues, and I just need more time to address everything that’s piling up.
What helped me make this change was that Jānis decided to return to work in Canada, so I’m not the only one earning money anymore. This shift gives me the time I need for self-care while still staying involved in work – I love being independent!
Let’s face it—there are only 24 hours in a day, and I struggle with sleep, so 8 hours of sleep is a lot 🙂 A lot tends to pile up! One day off work now feels like it’ll be devoted to just having a bath and doing the things I truly love to get inspiration and calm my nervs to carry on…
I have amazing job (and benefits), and this change allows me to strike a healthier balance between work, family, renovation and myself.

Great decision, your stress levels will come down. And you get more time with the kids. 🙂

I hope it’s not just a patch…

He’s not physically going to Canada, is he? That would be hard on you and the kids.

No, he’s not going physically. He’s working remotely for a company based in Canada, so thankfully, he’s still here with us. It’s a great opportunity, and I’m so glad we don’t have to be apart!

I’m so glad you made that decision, Ilze. Work is important, but home and family (and self care) must take precedence!

Thank you! It wasn’t an easy decision, but I know it’s the right one. Balancing work, home, and taking care of myself feels like a step in the right direction. 😊

A good decision, Ilze, but your husband will be a very long way from you and your children.

That looks like a fun children’s flick! It’s 11:25 AM here, not 9PM, silly! 🤪
