It has been raining a lot again, but this morning the world felt different. When I woke up, everything outside was wrapped in a gentle fog. To my surprise, it wasn’t cold at all—it was warm, soft, and inviting.

I decided to take a short walk before breakfast, thinking it would be the perfect way to start the day. The quietness of the fog felt magical, like the world was still half-asleep. But it quickly turned into a mistake—my blood sugar dropped, and I felt dizzy. I had to walk slowly back home, steadying myself with every step.

Once inside, I made myself a slice of wholegrain bread topped with avocado and salmon. That simple breakfast never tasted so good.

Even though my body didn’t appreciate the early walk, my eyes and heart did. The fog painted the morning in such a beautiful way that I don’t regret stepping outside for a moment. Sometimes, even a difficult start has its silver lining.

Are you diabetic too, Ilze? I am type 2. I recall walking through thick fog as a child, it was magical!

I suggest being tested right away, Ilze, this is a dangerous disease. You could fall into a diabetic coma! Please take action. 🙏🏻

I was tested… I have a high sugar level, 6.8, not 7.2… when it’s 7.2, then it’s type 2 starts…

Pre-diabetic. What is your A1C? Mine is around 5.5, very well controlled with Metformin.

I guess around 6.5.. Not measuring anymore!

That’s not bad at all, needs to be under 7. 😊

It is under 7, but… here we are healthier (sorry) and for our doctors normal is 5.4 🙂

Your avocado and salmon toast sounds delicious, Ilze! We have morning fog like that in the late autumn and winter also. I love it. 😊

In the winter, everything is frozen 🙂 I would say the fog is here in late summer and autumn.

I get those blood sugar drops too sometimes. Heading out in the morning without any fuel is never a good idea – even just a coffee and a little bite can make all the difference. These days I always carry something with me, like those energy bars. Here in Belgium we’ve got the brand nākd, made from fruit and nuts, or Trek, which is pretty similar. Add a small bottle of water and I can handle any sugar crash that comes my way. Best to stay prepared – same as with everything else.
Have a great weekend, Ilze!
Marc.
