I finally made a plum torte, and it was inspired by Ruth’s post. Actually, it was her post from a year ago that planted the seed: Original Plum Torte in NYC.
Back then, our renovation was in full swing, and I completely forgot about it. But yesterday, I stumbled upon Ruth’s newer post, and it all came back. Thank you, Ruth, for the reminder!

I used the first clipping Ruth shared: “My sister Mary has two clippings of recipes from the NYTimes.” That was the one I wanted to try.
Instead of a round tort, I baked mine in a small rectangular pan. And the best part? I used my own plums. They might not be the biggest or the sweetest, but they are mine. This is a plum year—it feels like it happens only once every five years.
I still remember 2020, when we stood under the old plum tree and ate them all, fresh from the branches. This year feels a little like that again.
Sometimes a recipe isn’t just about baking—it’s about memory, timing, and a little bit of inspiration at just the right moment.

There are tons of plums on the grass… I need to make jam, but I have no time to go and pick them up!
