As you know I’ve returned to blogging, I quite cause I thouth I didn’t had time, actually I’ve lost a freind.
Thinking of my dear blogging friend Roger (Grumpy Tyke) fills me with gratitude and nostalgia. Though we never met in person, our connection through blogging profoundly shaped my life. Roger, known by many as Dimi, was more than just a fellow writer—he was an inspiring source of encouragement. His presence in the blogging world reminded me of the meaningful bonds we can form, even across distances, thanks to the wonders of technology. His memory continues to inspire.

Roger and I connected through this blog. We turned digital conversations into a genuine and heartfelt friendship. His support and insights, shared from afar, were always a source of comfort and inspiration. We exchanged gifts and one time Roger baked the cake and sent it via mail! I still can’t believe the cake traveled by mail from the UK to Latvia. See the post here: https://latvianmom.com/2018/02/20/happy-35th-birthday-to-me/
When I started this blog, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it. Then I met Roger, thanks to travel spot he shared when we where on the caravan travel through the Germany (May 2017: https://latvianmom.com/2017/05/page/2/) He enjoyed following our everyday adventures. Little did I know that his response would be so creatively enriching. Roger’s talent for transforming our stories into captivating short stories (he published a book that includes the shortsotories we inspired, pfcourse he send the copy to me: https://grumpytyke.wordpress.com/2021/02/27/ive-published-a-book/) He has an extraordinary gift for storytelling. His blog, Grumpy Tyke, remains a testament to his creative spirit and the special bond we shared.
Roger’s influence extended far beyond his storytelling. He played a pivotal role in helping me embrace self-love. His words and encouragement helped me see the value in myself and my journey. I’ve lost myself and was a 120% just mom. His support was a guiding light, teaching me to appreciate and celebrate who I am. His ability to see and express the beauty in life, and in me, was a gift that I will always cherish.
Losing Roger to cancer was a painful loss. We started to plan to visit him in the UK. His courage and resilience, even as he faced his own battles, were truly inspiring. His kindness and wisdom continued to touch my life in ways I can’t fully express. Roger’s legacy of self-love and encouragement remains with me, a constant reminder of his impact.
I miss him dearly. The conversations, the laughter, and the deep, meaningful exchanges, though virtual, were precious. Cakes through the mail :). Remembering Roger highlights the true value of friendship and how technology can connect us in meaningful ways, even across distances.
To Roger: Thank you for the inspiration. Your presence is still felt, and your memory will forever be a cherished part of my life. Though we never met face-to-face, the bond we shared was real and deeply meaningful. Rest in peace, dear friend. You are profoundly missed.
With heartfelt remembrance,
Ilze

A really wonderful tribute. Sometimes we can only speculate when good blogging friends leave

Thank you so much. It’s always hard when a blogging friend leaves without a word. We talked a lot about death in our conversations and even asked our spouses to inform each other if something ever happened…

I’m sorry for your loss of your wonderful friend, Ilze, he sounds like a wonderful person. I wish that you could have traveled to meet him. I can’t believe that a cake can survive being shipped without turning into mush!
