It’s been a while since I last opened my watercolor paints.
I wouldn’t call myself a watercolor artist. Most of the time I have no idea what I’m doing, and if I’m completely honest… I’m not very good at it. But every now and then I stumble across a subject that somehow works, and that little success makes me want to pick up the brushes again.
Last night I couldn’t sleep, so instead of staring at the ceiling, I sat down with my watercolors.
The first painting…

Well… don’t ask me what it is. 😄
It might be something. Or nothing at all. I simply let the brush move across the paper without a plan. I wasn’t trying to paint anything specific—I just wanted to enjoy the colors flowing into each other. Looking at it now, I still can’t decide what I was thinking. What do you think?
The second painting turned out much better—a gorgeous green beetle! I absolutely love how it came together. The shimmering shades of green were so much fun to paint, and for once the finished result actually looks like what I had imagined.

The last one was a little experiment: a one-minute portrait using a big brush. Is it a portrait, though? I’m not entirely sure! It has a face… sort of… and it definitely has character. Maybe that’s enough.

All three were painted in the same night. I’d say the first one is terrible, the second one is absolutely lovely, and the third one… well… it’s downright scary.
All painted by the same person at the same night…
How is that even possible? What on earth is going on inside my head?

The beetle I find gorgeous and the face isn’t bad at all. I wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley though. 🙂
Way better than me!
They all look great to me. That bug looks like a real bug not a painting…you have amazing talent.
The beetle is perfect – I like the others too.
You have more control of watercolour than I have ever had
